Chapter 1: Unpleasant Meeting.
“ Jie~, Welcome home” greeted Avelyn/Xin ling and Ella/Xin Li
“Have you two finished your home work? I will be checking it later.” I asked
“ ...”
“ Come on, you two. Quickly, now. I am going to making dinner now, so you guys better finish your homework before I finish cooking ok.”
“ Isn’t Da jie cooking today?”
“ No, she is going to come home late today. So today I will take over. Ok now, go do your homework.”
“ Okay,”
My name is Dora/ Xin ying, in this house only lives my older sister, Jessie/ Xin yi, and my two little younger sister Avelyn and Ella. My sister work as an accountant so she earns the main income for the family while I do as much as I can in the house chores and working at a part-time job. I’m in my 10th year in school while my younger sisters Ella/Xin li, who is in year 5 while my other sister Avelyn/Xin ling, who is in year 2. Luckily for me, I had earn a scholarship for gymnastic and ballet, my friends Belinda and Yuki both enter the school with a scholarship. Belinda entered with a swimming and media arts scholarship while Yuki enter with an ice skating and photography scholarship. I have been in many gymnastic competitions and earn 1st or 2nd trophy with $1000 or other prize money though not always.
“Avy, Ella. It is dinner time,”
“ Hooray~”
Our lives maybe hard but it is still a happy one even without my parents. I have my sisters and my friends, living out a normal teenage life. I am happy and satisfied with my life.
Every morning, my sister and I take turns making breakfast in the morning before we leave the house. My sister leaves for work straightaway while I send Avelyn and Ella to school before making my way to school as well.
“ Hey Belinda, Yuki.” I called out from a far.
“ Yo,” replied Belinda
“ Hi, Dora. How are you this morning?” questioned Yuki.
“ Like always busy.”
The three of us have been friends ever since we entered the school no one really like us as they are all rich kids while the three of us have scholarships to be in this school. However, we have each other and that is enough for us to be happy and have fun together. There are a few people that don’t care about out our financial background and treat us like everybody else as well as becoming friends with us. We left our seat near the canteen as we made our way to homeroom. We were chatting and walking, however we were interrupted before we arrived in homeroom.
“ Hi Dora, how are you this morning?” greeted Darren. He is a brilliant basketball player and one of our closest friends. Darren and I were friends long ago in pre-school, it has been so long since we had meet yet he still remember me even when I nearly forgotten.
“ Hey Darren . I’m great, you?” I cheerfully answered.
“ *Cough*Cough*Cough*” coughed Yuki
“ You know, there are 2 other people here” commented Belinda
“ Oh, Belinda, Yuki. I... I didn’t see you there. How are you?” Darren answered hesitantly
“ I’m sure, you didn’t” joked Belinda. We all let out a cheerful laugh before we had to had to separate into homerooms. Yuki is in a different homeroom from Belinda and I however, she has Darren’s friend Lewis who has become rather fond of Yuki. Lewis is a top soccer player and plays for the state best soccer team. They compete in various national competition with a few international competition. Beside Belinda and I in the same homeroom Darren and his friend Blaine are with us. Blaine is Darren’s friend and ours, he is an excellent Karate fighter and is one of the best throughout the states. Everyone can see who he has a crush on, only his crush does not know it. Darren, Blaine and Lewis are the most popular guys in school, every girl adores them though they seem more interested in the 3 least popular girls who are Belinda, Yuki and I. Many girls are jealous of the relationship we have with these guys but it doesn’t make much of a difference they already look down upon us already. Homeroom ended as students filled the narrow hallways as they made there way to class. The first period I had, commerce with Darren and Yuki, since would be making her own way from her homeroom to class Darren and I walked side by side towards or first lesson today.
“ Hey Dora, what are you doing during lunch time?”
“ Today is gymnastic practice so I will be having lunch in the gymnasium. Why do you ask?”
“ Huh!? Oh... No reason, just curious... Umm... what about after school are you busy then.”
“ I’m need to pick my 2 little sisters up from school today.”
“ I will go with you”
“ Huh!? really... You sure, You know you don’t have too.” Darren was persistent in accompany me in pick my sisters up this afternoon. I secretly smiled as I was happy that he was willing to spend the afternoon with me. I knew he has feelings for me and I feel the same way though I can’t put my hopes up as I never know I might be wrong.
The hours passed as the afternoon drew closer and my excitement grew larger. This would be the first time Darren decided to accompany me and send me home. The first time since we first reunited we had such a enjoyable trip to the primary school. Happy times never last long though especially when we arrived in front of the school gates of my sisters primary school.
“ Lili, Ling ling. Long time no see.”
“ Ge~” called Ling ling/Avelyn
“ How are you ling ling?”
“ Good” Ling ling called cheerfully.
“ Lili, what about you? ... Lili?” Lili/Ella continued to ignore him and turned away as he started a conversation with her. Once I have arrived Lili ran towards me and gave me a big hug.
“ Jie~ Your finally here.”
“ Ella, have you been good in school today?”
“ Of course, when am I not?” smiled Ella cheekily .
“ Mei~ How are you? haven’t seen you in a while.” I looked up to see a boy.
“ Avy, Come. Give jiejie a big hug.” Avelyn let go of his hand and ran right into my opened arms. giving me a giant hug.
“ Now remember you don’t talk to strangers ok,” I told Avelyn as I carried her up, held on to Ella’s hand and turned around walking in the opposite direction from the guy. Darren who was standing next to me didn’t know what he should do instead just followed me as we left the other boy behind. However he didn’t give in that easily, he increased his speed to catch up to me grabbing hold of my shoulder and said,
“ Mei~”
“ Let go,” I called. Darren immediately turned around grabbing hold of his wrist and pushed him away. The two of them began fight each other however I knew that fighting wasn’t one of Darren’s strong point and the stranger looks as if it was his. The stranger turned on one foot as he lifted the other throwing a quick keep into Darren’s chest pushing him over. Firmly holding onto Avelyn in my one hand, I did a semi turn on one foot landing a side kick into his chest before elbowing him across the face. Fighting isn’t my strong point but I have learn’t a few moves when I was younger even if I am weak I know that with these few moves I at least have a chance of fighting back any enemy. I grabbed hold of Ella’s hand after I turned away to help Darren up.
“ I don’t know who you are or what you want but I want you to stay away from me and my sisters.” I called out just before leaving the stranger behind. As I was about to turn around the corner, I looked from the corner of my eye to see if he followed. Thankfully he stayed in the same place as he watched me as I disappeared around the corner. It was silent for awhile since we left the school gates, I knew Darren didn’t know what to say. Ella broke the awkward silence as she complimented on my kick and how cool Darren was when he fought the stranger. Darren thanked her for the complimented as well as agreeing with Ella about my kick. Ella began whining that she wanted to be carried to before I called say anything Darren jumped in and offered Ella a piggy-back. Ella instantly agreed while she jumped on to his back. I smiled at Darren and mouth the word thank you as we walk happily towards my house. I hope that I would never see that stranger again however, I feel like he would pop up again.
